At the Supreme Court the' hearing of six charges of obtaining money by false pretences against David Neilson Johnston, New Zealand representative of Quarterly Dividends, Ltd., and National House Purchase, Ltd., began before Mr. Justice Kennedy. The Grown Prosecutor said the companies were promoted in England by Mr. William Taverner and accused was appointed secretary for New Zealand. Johnston had informed prospective depositors tbiit by the payment of £2 Is and 15 monthly payments of £1 they would reach the £6009 class in seven and a half years, when they would draw dividends on that amount for the rest of their lives. He would call actuarial evidence to show that the whole scheme was unsound. (Proceeding.)
