The loss sustained as a result of the explosion in Kariuignhapo road, Auckland, caused by a faulty electric cable, is estimated at £2OO. ‘ The owner of the shop destroyed, Mr. H. Howie, stated that insurance companies repudiated all .responsibility as far as explosions from electric cables were concerned. They paid insurance on damage done by coal-gas explosions, hut not electric cable. The Auckland Power Hoard does not admit any legal responsibility, although a member said that morally the hoard was responsible. It is believed that the board Will compensate Mr. Howie for at least sonic of tlio damage, if not all of it. Tho whole subject of cable explosions and the damage done by them Will be discussed at the next meeting of the board. Mr. Howie has written to the board asking what attitude it proposes to adopt regarding the loss to the company. A member of the Power Board stated that the cables were beifig renewed as fast as possible. —Stln.
