STRANGE CONFLICT
ACCUSED AND COUNSEL TRENCH MtTRDER CASE (Elcc. Tel. Copyright—United Tress Assn.) (Received Nov. 4, 3 p.m.) PARIS, Nov. .1 A strange conflict has broken nut between Corbett and bis counsel. Maitre Brum Corbett is firmly resolved to plead justification and is angered by bis counsel's decision to appeal for pity on the ground that Corbett's mentality had been weakened by the study of occult sciences. Corbett declares emphatically that he will interrupt his counsel. It is too late for his counsel to withdraw, or for Oorbeit to obtain a new one. The juiv. therefore, is confronted by an unusual double-barrelled argument. In an interview Corbett said: "! am ready to face the judges without fear, regret, or excuse, except that 1 acted from motives of mercy. Many urged me to change my plea, but 1 will not I loved my mo.her and killed her because I loved her. Ido not fear death; 1 tried to die. On the contrary, if prison is mv fate I am ready."
The case is attracting tremendous in terest in French judical and psychii circles.
Sir Arthur Cohan Doyle has written to Oorbett stating that be is willing to go to the (rial as a witness because iie favors his theory.
