LINES MAY BE CLOSED BRISBANE, Oct. 2. The Minister for Railways, Mr, Morgan, has hinted at the possibility of some branch linos being closed. He said that the railways had Veen built at enormous expense to encourage settlement, and agricultural and primary products Were carried at exceptionally low rates. If, however, higher class goods were given to road motors to convey, it became a question of whether the Railway Department could continue to carry primary products at the low rates existing to-day. Unless primary producers, used the railways to a, much greater extent the- Government would he compelled fo close, some of the branch lines, increase, rates on primary products, or in some instances reduce train services.
