ST. JOHN AMBULANCE

GISBORNE BRANCH MEETS A meeting of tho Gisborne branch of Ilio (St. John Ambulance Association was held last evening. Present: Mr. A. Thomsofi (chairman), Mesdames K. >Silverwood, B. A. Porridge, Miss M. Gordon, Messrs. D. W. Coleman, C. Tatlorslield, A. Freebairn and W. K. B. Froggatt (lion, secretary). Correspondence was received from the district officer, All*. A. VY. Probert, regarding the proposed visit of himself and the senior district superintendent, Mr. F. Hutchinson, at the end of October, to carry out the annual inspection of the ambulance and nursing divisions of the brigade. A circular letter was received from the district senior superintendent, stating that the ambulance transport work throughout the Auckland province, was growing rapidly, this necessitating certain uniformity of color and design. Whangarei, Gisborne, Tauinarunui, and Te Arolia- now have ambulances, and other towns no doubt will soon have theirs. Therefore, it has been suggested by the ambulance transport committee, Auckland, that , when any proposal is made to purchase an ambulance or any -additional ambulances the services of the committee and transport officers should he taken advantage of; I heir experience was at the disposal of all branches. In the event ol a national emergency the St. John Ambulance Association could then place a uniform fleet at the public service, stretchers', and clothing being interchangeable. A letter was received from Mr. V. Gow, manager of the South Canterbury Hockey Association, thanking the nursing division for its attention to the members of the team during the. recent tournament in Gisborne.—-On the motion of Mr. C. Tatterslield, seconded by Mr. A. Freebairn, the -correspondence was received. 'Die reports received from the secretaries of the nursing division and the brigade showed that 215 eases had been treated at the recent hockey tournament, and 1 58 cases treated during the last quarter at other sports meetings. Tlte report received from the ambulance transport officer showed that during the month 35 cases had been removed and the mileage totalled 259. The secretary reported that the proceeds of the picture night given by the Palace Theatre were £l6 clear of expenses. The street sale of flowers held on September 14 resulted in £33 16s being collected. The annual donation of £5 5s was received from .the Gisborne Borough Council. The fees received for ambulance transport during the month totalled £B.—The chairman moved that a vote of thanks bo extended to all donors of flowers, and the ladies who worked so hard to make the sale of flowers such a success.—The motion was carried unanimously.—The secretary was requested to write to Mr. 11. J. Kerridge, of the Palace picture theatre, thanking him for the picture evening, and also to the Gisborne Boron vh Council for its annual donation.

The following accounts were passed for payment: General fund, £4 2s lid ; motor ambulance fund, £2 15s.

As most of the members present had other engagements, the balance of the business was held over till next meeting.
