IRAQ INDEPENDENCE
NEW MINISTER’S AIM TREATY WITH BRITAIN (Australian and X. 55. Press Association.) LONDON, Sept. 20. The announcement from Bagdad which quickly followed the Daily Tejegraph hint cabled yesterday morning, takes the press and the country generally by surprise, especially as it implies the abandonment of the mandate. No announcement of any such intention has been made in London. 'No information is obtainable at tho .Colonial Office. General Jafar Pasha, Iraq Minister in Loudon, in the course oi a statement, says the significance of the new coalition Cabinet lies in the fact that its policy in respect to British relation's is unchanged. All sections of Iraq’s population, without distinction or party, want the mandate replaced by a treaty of friendship, leaving Iraq free to her own resources, particularly her own defence. The Morning Post nays it is expected that the new treaty will be on the lines of Ihe t reaty made with iLgypt.
