There was not much change racing to six furlongs, but at the half-mile tho Held began to bunch. Racing across the top, Oala Day still held command and led into the straight from Amorist. Apache, Carinthia and Thurnbell. Gala Day was first over the last hurdle, and sustaining his run beat Apache by a length and a half. Thurnbell was ■>. length away third, and th>m followed Amorist, Aurora Borealis, Carinthia. and Antrim .Hoy. with

Leader and Desert Song being in front from the start, followed by Grand Song, who was done with at the em! of half a mile. Loader stayed on to beat Desert Song by a length. Air Laddie and Honeycomb came on the scene later.

in the Jumpers' Flat Handicap, Troilus and Chiekwheat were the first to show out, but Fine Acre soon ran to the front, loading Brightling out of tho straight, with. Troilus and Aberfcldy next. Horomea moved up at the end of two furlongs, and at the mile post she was in second place behind Fine Acre, with Troilus, Overhaul, and Aberfcldy next. There was not much change until half a mile from home, where Abcrfeldy made a forward move. Ho followed Fine Aero into the straight, and gradually wore the pacemaker down, winning by a short length. Brightling was three lengths away, with Horomea fourth, while Overhaul and Atareria were next. Wiltshire, last year's winner of the Grand National Steeplechase, was successful again to-day, an'd he received a groat reception on returning to the scales. Tho W r aikato-trainccl horse had two lives on the journey, but otherwise he jumped safely and had little trouble in holding off the field that was opposed to him. The scratching of Lord Ranald robbed the race of a considerable amount of interest that promised to attach to it. Wiltshire and King's Guard led over the first fence and at the stand double they were just clear of Fahriano. Matu, and Rangi Sarto, with Kawini and Maunga two lengths further back. The order was unchanged at Cutts', hut King's Guard joined Wiltshire at tho post and rails, but Wiltshire was on terms again at tho Kennels double, Matu and Fabriano being just behind them. King's Guard drew out on the fiat, but Wiltshire caught him again at tho sod wall. Wiltshire led King's Guard, Fabriano, and Rangi Sarto into the straight, tho four being close together. Rangi Sarto then retired, and he was last passing the stand, where Wiltshire, King's Guard, and Fabriano were together, 10 lengths in front of Maunga and Matu, with Kawini a little further back. King's Guard and Fabriano led Wiltshin 1 over Cutts' fence by four lengths. Maunga fell at the sod wall, interfering with Kawini. Going to tho post and rails King's Guard and Fabriano were just clear of Wiltshire and Matu, but at the Kennels double Wiltshire joined the pair in front. Wiltshire jumped to tho front at tho sod wall, and turned into the straight several lengths in front of King's Guard, Fabriano, and Matu. J Wiltshire hold his lead over the last fence, where Matu was in second place. Wiltshire finished strongly, and boat Matu by six lengths. Fabriano was throe lengths away, with King's Guard five lengths further back.

After the race, the jockey, R. Synie, snjd: "Wiltshire had a couple of lives on the journey. At Cutis' the first, time I thought he was going to go, but he made a good recovery. After that, I let him have his head a little, and he jumped much better, and with a round to go he was galloping so evenly that I knew he would win with a stand up. At the top wall, near the five furlongs, I let him go, and in a flash he gained a big break on the rest. Once in the straight I let him bowl along again freely, and after crossing the last fence I eased him to win on Die bit. It was a great victory, but Wiltshire did not jump nearly so well as he did last vear."

In the Enfield Steeplechase, Handy and Silver Light led over Ihe first fence. Silver Light was in front at the stand double, where Bon Aryon fell. Handy led over Cutis' fence with the rest, of the field in a bunch just behind him. At the sod wall, however, Handy had dropped back to last, Kaikahu going on in front. Kaikahu led over the post and rails, where Handy baulked. Dubious headed Kaikahu at the Kennels double, but Kaikahu had joined him again at the sod wall Kaikahu led over the fence at the top of the straight, where Alaric, ran fourth. Kaikahu was in front at the last fence, where he lost his rider. In the run home, Dubious beat Silver Light by a length and a half. Kaikahu was caught by a spectator, and was ridden in for third money.

Gay Sonnet was the first to break the linn when the field was sent away in the Winter Cup, with Royal Saxon, Gold Cure, Historic, and Tcheka, in close attendance. At the end of two furlongs Gay Sonnet was just showing clear of Gold Cure, with Historic and Royal Saxon together at the head of the others. Gay Sonnet and Gold Cure wtjro three lengths in front of Historic at. the home turn, with Royal

Saxon still prominent. Historic moved up when tho straight was reached. He was in front at tho distance, where Taboo also mndo his appearance. Historic went on to win easily by threo lengths from Gay Sonnet, who beat Taboo by half a length. Gold Cure was a length away, just in front of King Balboa and Otniri.
