A strenuous attack on professional sport was made before the National Council of Education by Mr. L. B. Franklin, of Melbourne. The speaker showed how the influence of English public school sports had been encouraged to dominate school life in Australia. He believed education should bo extended to give power, strength, self-control, and endurance of body and mind. The spirit he condemned was the sort of sport that was carried on for money, and he . deplocd engaging in sport for consideration, advertising, or self-glorifi-cation. It was not important if boys won Olympic championships, but it was highly important that boys should receive tho right kind of physical training. Private schools in Australia were modelled after the British system, which contributed to building real character and manhood.

Mr. Robert .Tahman, of Britain, urged sound physical education.

The Rev. C. F. And rews, associate of Rabindranath, Tagore, wanted Canada and India to exchange ngents-gencral, and see Punjabi residents in Canada have the franchise as in Australia and New Zealand, to foster a better Empire feeling.
