Mr S. A. R. Mair, of Ilunterville, has been re-appointed to the Local Government Loans Board for a year ‘from April 1. Mr. W. McKoague, who was burned hy an explosion on the (hedge Kaioneai, Wanganui on March 28, is making good progress towards recovery. At (i meeting of the Canterbury A. and P. Association yesterday, Mr. D. W. Westenra was re-elected Canterbury representative on the Board of Agriculture. Sir Garrick Robertson left by the Niagara on Tuesday for Canada on route to England. He will bo away ■some months. His son, Mi'- John Robertson, who has been studying at Cambridge University for some years, will return with him. Mr. J. M. Chalmers, a Singapore merchant, who is on his way to England, passed through Auckland on the Niagara. He said that the floating (lock was well in hand, and that nearly 400 supervisors and others from Europe were engaged on it in addition to a large number of natives. Senior-Sergeant 1). A. .Mac Lean, of the Gisborne police force, to-day received notice of his transfer to Wanganui, to replace Senior-Sergeant (J. Lopdell, who lias been transferred. Sergeant 11. C. 1). Wade, of Wairoa, has been promoted to the rank of senior-sergeant, and has been transferred to Gisborne, but no advice has yet been received as to when the transfers will take'effect. SeniorSergeant MacLeau arrived in Gisborne from Wailii 18 months ago. Mr. W. T. Neill, who recently retired from the position of Surveyor-General, wins officially farewelled hy his fellow workers at Wellington this week, when an opportunity was taken to present him with a well-filled wallet as a token of the esteem in which he was held by the Department. The Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. IV. Forbes, who made the presentation, wished Mr. Neill many !happy years in which to enjoy his wellearned" leisure. The Under-Secretary for Lands, Mr. J. B. Thompson, C.8.E., remarked on Mr. Neill's high scientilic attainments, and stated that ho was recognised as an authority on geophysics, both in the Dominion and at Home. He hoped that Mr. Neill’s knowledge would ('still he available to the Department and the Dominion. Other speakers included Mr. H. E. Waishe, Surveyor-General. Mr. R. A. Rodger, land purchase officer, and Mr. W. Robertson, assistant Undersecretary for Lands. Mr. Neill suitably replied.
