OBITUARY
MR. ARNOLD LEVESTAM The death occurred of a former chief engineer of the Union Co., Mr. Arnold Levestam, at Sydney on March 23. The late Mr. Levestam was horn in Nelson 66 years ago, his father being the member of Parliament for that district. Ho (.served a full apprenticeship to mechanical engineering with Messrs. Robertson Bros., of Wellington. In 1888 he joined the Koranui as second engineer. His lirst appointment as chief engineer was in 1898 to the Dingadee, and subsequently lie was in command of the en-gine-room department of mluiy of the Union Co.’s vessels, amongst them being the Takapuna, Rotomahana, Mararoa, Moana, Warrimoo, Paloona, Manuka, and the well-known Aralmra, now running for the Anchor Co. He retired from the employment of the Union Co. lin 1926, after completing 37 years of service. He was a keen and enthusiastic member of the New Zealand Institute of Marine and Power Engineers, being for many years on (lie executive, and also vice-president, lie leaves a widow, who resides in Sydney, a daughter, and two brothers in New Zealand, Mr. I l '. W. Levestam, of Wellington, and Mr. 11. A. Levestam, chief engineer of the dredge Eileen Ward, and of Westport.
