There was not much between them wiien the hack-marker was sent off, and for a long way the issue was in doubt. Rail; repeatedly drawing up and then falling away again. Weight and strength told in tho later stages, and Coates asserted his superiority convincingly, winning with clear water between the boats. An erratic, course steered by 8. Gray, in bis meeting with R. Anderson, dissipated the advantage of Issee. which Anderson conceded to bis opponent. Neither sculler steered particularly well, especially at (he Reliance street, footbridge, the downfall of many an experienced waterman. Down tho long strotdi the boats were together, but Anderson went away from Derby street, and Gray, in his efforts to stay with him, lost his steering marks. The result was (luit. lie got into shallow water and was well beaten in the finish. In the semi-finals this evening, Jones was drawn to meet Anderson, and Coates’ opponent, was to he G. Weatherly, who lias not raced in the series so far, having won by default in tho first round and had a bye in the second. P.B. CLUB'S DOUBLES. Hume (BseC), and experienced little difficulty in holding their advantage throughout'. The limit pair moved off to a good start, and although their opponents challenged on several occasions, managed to keep a good gap between the boats.
