POVERTY BAY ASSOCIATION THE ANNUAL MEETING The animal meeting of the Poverty Bay Hockey Association was held last evening, tin: president, Mr. A. S. Parker, being in the chair. There was an encouraging attendance, and considerable enthusiasm was displayed, auguring wi.T? for the success of the coining season. In moving the adoption of tlie annual report, Mr. Parker commented upon Hie great improvement shown in the standard of the piny in the men's matches. Last season, however, was a lean one with regard to ladies’ hockey here, hut a determined attempt was being made to re-establish the game on its former strong footing. the balance sheet showed a small loss of £ll Is lid. hut lie considered the position satisfactory as tlie expenditure had been wisely disbursed. SEASON’S LOSS REVIEWED. ' Mr. A. Cassin. chairman of the executive committee, seconded Hie adoption.of tho annual report, and referred to the journey of the men’s team to Wellington. He thanked the Wellington associa tioii for its hospitality and also Mr. Perrin, who did everything possible to make the stay of the team in the city a. pleasant one. It was necessary for some of the players to do some strenuous travelling in order that little time would bo lost in business, but Hie trip had been conducted m the best of spirits by the players. He remarked upon the very fine spirit shown by members of Hie men’s teams in raising funds for the. trip, and among the best workers were those who knew they had no hope of being included in the team. V ith that element continuing, tho game should go on well here. He complimented Mrs. Bmale and other ladies who worked so hard for the success of the social functions.

In commenting on the balance, sheet, Mr. Cassin said that in the loss of Dll Is lid was included an amount ol E 5 12s 6d paid to (he Borough Council as ground rental for the 1927 season, this amount having been withheld pending the settlement of a dispute. It was evident that tho manament fund was not receiving sufficient money, the balance sheet of the association during the last few years having shown a loss. 11 the association had one good social function during the season this fund could be put on a satisfactory basis. It was suggested that the association should decide to preclude any attempt to raise money for a touring fund tint?? the management fund was in a sound position. The grandstand trust fund now stood at £35 7,5, and apart from a certain sum set aside for repainting, etc., the association was entitled to a certain amount, but nothing had been decided yet as to how the money was to be apportioned. With this taken into consideration the balance sheet, therefore, showed a much more satisfactory state of affairs than at first sight. With careful management he did not see any reason why the association had not' a permanent home on the reserve. If the committee displayed sufficient energy Hie association should be in a good financial position. With regard to Hie re-arrangement of the grounds, the Football Association find approved of the plans subject to minor alterations, which Mr. Cassin saw no difficulty in complying with. The report and balance sheet were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected: Patroness, Lailv Carrol! (re-elected); patron. Mr. J.’J. Martin (re-elected); president, Mr. A. S. Parker (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mrs. Hoi, \V. Faltridge, IT. A. Armstrong. M. ,T. Kyne, N. Hnndriek.s. O. Ogilvie, F. Staff, 8. Beaufoy, D- A. Mac Lean; bon. score' lary, Mr. E. Fitzmaurice : assistant secretary, Mr. L. Worthington; lion, treasurer. Mr. T. Smale: registrar, Mr. P. Moore; auditors, Messrs. O. Ogilvie and A. Price. Prior to the election of Mr. Parker as president, Mr. Cassin remarked upon Mr. Parker’s great services to the association in the past, and said it bad been the unanimous desire of the executive that Mr. Parker should retain bis position. A notice of motion standing in the name of Mr. C. Greig, that all touring funds be bandied by trustees to be appointed by the executive, was seconded by Mr. Cassin. who stated that Hie association thought it desirable, after many years’ experience, that it should have some control over such funds in order that money so raised should not be diverted from the specified channels. If the motion were carried permission would have to be obtained from the trustees by any group of players desiring to raise funds for touring teams. 1 lie motion was carried. Last season, it was explained, the association derived considerable monetary benefit by (barging players 6il tor each playing day or bs for a. season ticket, but that this did not meet with (lie unanimous approval of the P lil .Yei' s - Miss P. Hopkinson moved and Mr. i. Tuibitt seconded that the incoming executive be recommended to make this levy on the clubs and not directly on the individual players, the motion being carried. . ~ , , Complimentary reference was made oy Mr Cassin of the work of the executive committee, while tho president _ commented on Mr. Cassin’s great services to Hie game, and regretted that be was not amain seeking re-election as chairman ot the executive. The president hoped-that Mr Cassin’s services would still ue available for (lie good of the game. Ihe president also complimented the retiring secretary, Mr. Smale, on his work, and thanked all other officials and the press. It was suggested that an endeavor should, lie made immediately to arrange for social functions to help the association's funds, and it was decided that one representative from each team and three nominated by the executive should form a social committee.
