GRUESOME TRAGEDIES
MURDERS IN SYDNEY WOMAN AND TWO BABES ' SYDNEY, March 22. A gruesome discovery was made on a flower bed iu Hyde Park, in the centrd of ' the city, to-day, a woman’s dead body being found with her hands 1 tied behind her back, her features distorted} and a wound over the left eye. . The city coroner viewed the body before its removal, A post-mortem.ex-amination revealed that the woman was strangled or smothered overnight. She has been identified as Vera Sterling* with a number of arises, who regularly slept in the parks. . The police express the opinion that the woman was probably , outraged and then murdered.
Another ghastly discovery was made in a different part of the" city. Two newly-born babes, a boy and, a girl, both dead, were found in a garbage tin.
A pedestrian passing by saw a baby’s limb protruding from a parcel. He called the police, who unwrapped the covering and disclosed the bodies.
A CULTURED WOMAN BUT VICTIM OF VICE (Received March 23, noon.) - ’ SYDNEY, March 23. ” Vera Sterling is. believed, to have been a member of a well-eonneeted English family,‘and the wife of an English sea captain. Associates described her as a cultured woman, but the victim of methylated, spirits’. There was no evidence that the woman had been outraged, but the police are certain she was murdered.
