GISBORNE HIGH SCHOOL
BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEET
The monthly meeting of the Gisborne High School Board of Governors was held yesterday afternoon, Mr. L. T. Burnard presiding. Those present, were: —Messrs, T. Todd, G-. Oran* sliaw, H. E. Bright, J. Kinder, Blackburn, B. Robertson, and the rector, Mr. 3:'. Foote. Sub-committees were reappointed as follows: Grounds and building, Messrs. F. W. Nolan, T. Todd, and R. Robertson; staff, Messrs. L. 3'. Burnard, .1. Kinder, and G. Crawshaw; finance, Messrs. H. E. Bright, J. it. Kirk, and ■C. Blackburn.
Reference to the annoyance of canvassers at the school was made by the rector, who s*i,d that a considerable aino.ujit of time .was .wasted. during school hours. The school is often visited by hawkers and travellers with various articles for sale, and in most instances they arc hard to get rid of, lie added. On the motion of Mr. Crawshaw, it was resolved that all eapyassers and hawkers be forbidden at the school. The rector remarked that owing lo the enthusiasm displayed -by many oi the secondary boys, a special woodwork class was being held on Snltirdav mornings, whereby pupil? who had no! alt ended woodwork classes at primary schools were enabled to receive instruction. _ Accounts amounting io £14,01 Us >'d were passed for payment. The .following was contained in the visiting committee’s report: — “The secretary was instructed to have fanlights on the north side of the school attended to. The dux board is now lull, and it is recommended that wings be added. Extra bicycle shed accommodation is required. Provision tor a. place to store the mowing machine could be arranged for at the same time. Further expenditure is required on top-dressing with earth and manure on the new playing field. It is recommended that steps be taken to have Gladstone and Stanley road side of the new ground fenced."
The report was adopted. In connection with the purchase of a horse for the new mowing machine, which had been in use at the grounds, it was decided to hire one in the meantime owing to the little use there would be for the pioneer during the winter months.
