SHOW GROUNDS APPEAL

THE £7OOO PROJECT A. AND P. ASSOCIATION’S EFFORT When the Poverty Bay A. and P. Association decided to launch a campaign for the collection of £7OOO to provide a fund for the improvement of the show grounds it was anticipated that there would be sufficient public, support forthcoming to make this possible. Although this has still to bo proved in the absence of official reports from the various canvassers engaged on the work, private advice indicates that the initial efforts are meeting with a ready response, and if the same satisfactory results are obtained all over the district, it should be'possible to roach the £7OOO mark aimed at.

The association now has an area of 04 acres, and although the -ground is practically level and should not require much preparation, the erection of the necessary buildings and pens will require considerable expenditure. It is suggested that, a grandstand, sheep pavilion and cattle and pig pens should be constructed out of the money received, but the extent of the building operations must necessarily depend on the public support to the appeal. ’Phe original idea was to have the preparation of the grounds com pleted jn time to hold the jubilee show next spring on the association's own ground; whether this will be possible is a. moot point, but if this is impossible there appears .little to prevent a move to the association’s own ground for next year’s show. On the area of 34. acres recently purchased, by the association is a cottage, and it was thought, by many that, this would not, be revenue producing, but since it was announced that the association intended to purchase the property, a number of applications have come to hand from persons desiring to lease the dwelling. Noth ing lias been decided in this connection vet, but it seems Hint there would be little difficulty in leasing the house at a satisfactory rental.
