MAILS PILLAGED

40 bXgs opened (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Secretary of the General Tost Office advises that some malls received from the South Island by the Wahino yesterday morning were-found mi discharge of the vessel ,to have been* pillaged! Approximately 40 hags had been opened ami a portion of the registered contents abstracted from them. Full details of the losses are not yet available, but it is 'known that registered contents of bags from various parts of the Month Island have been stolen. There is no suggestion that non-registered letters have been interfered with, The matter is being inquired into by the police.
