SALE OF U.S. SHIPS

HIGHEST BID ACCEPTED (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received February 11, 10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, February 10. The United States Shipping Board has accepted the top bid for its largest Gov-ernment-owned liners, including the leviathan. The highest bid was from a Chicago banking firm of £3,200,000 for all the vessels. The lowest bid was £1,200,000 from the International Mercantile Marine. It is estimated that the cost of replacement of these vessels would be £25,400,000. The action, however, is not final, as it will doubtlessly be reviewed by the Senate Commerce Committee.
