CHAMPION PAIRS VICTORY TO KAHTJTIA The champion pairs tournament, in which players from the Tolaga Bay, Te Karaka, Gisborne, I 'overly Bay, and Kahutia bowling clubs took pari, was held on the Katiuiia club's green on Friday afternoon. Good play was witnessed, and in the final Kahutia defeated Tolaga Buy by 23 to 18, Results:— First round: Poverty Buy (Moore and Wilkinson, skip), 2-1, \. Gisborne (Dixon and Craig, skip) 18. Second round: Tolaga May (.Will and Crowley, skip) 18, drew with Te Karaka (Auld and Murray, skip) 18. In the play-off the coast pair won by one point. Third round: Kahutia (Power and Martin, skip) 16, beat, Poverty Bay (Moore and Wilkinson, skip). 15. Pinal: Kahutia 23, beat Tolaga Bay, 18. Soon after the start of the final, Tolaga Bay had 11! to Kahutia's 3, then the local pair reversed the lead on the next four heads, Kahutia scoring a 5,2, .'!, and 1, making the score: Kahutia 14, Tolaga Bay 13. Crowley registered two each on the followingtwo heads, making the position at the 10th head: Tolaga Bay 17, Kahutia 14. The town pair secured two on the next head, then Crowley sent down a nice bowl which was not shifted, making the points 18—16 in Tolaga's favor. However, Kahutia evened up on the 19th head, the score being IS all. At the finish of the 20th head Kahutia were standing three up on the coast players. The Kahutia bowlers maintained their lead on the final head, Power drawing one and Martin adding a couple. The game concluded amidst intense excitement. According to several veteran bowlers the games were among the best seen in the champion pairs tournament in Poverty Bay for some time. POVERTY BAY CLUB Members of the Poverty Bay Bowling Club participated in a number of ordinary and pair matches on .Saturday afternoon. The weather conditions were ideal, and the green favored a splendid afternoon's sport. Results: Ordinary games: Godding, Wauchop, Mac Gibbon (s) 23, v.
