SEARCH FOR SEA SERPENTS
AN AMERICAN EXPEDITION SYDNEY, Jan. 22. An American expedition is about, to leave San Francisco in search of sea serpents, with the millionairenaturalist, Cornelius Crane, as scientific head. The party? will visit Aus-' tralia. Arrangements have been made for a cruise of 30,000 miles in the Paeifie Ocean and East Indies seas in the brigantlne Illyria, a craft of 147 ft. long and a beam of 30ft., which has been fitted out specially for the work. The expedition intends to make an early call at Port Stephens lighthouse. As the vessel is also fitted with marine surveying and sonnding apparatus, a good service will hi* rendered to shipping by the seaserpent seekers, who will locate and chart new reefs.
