CUSTOMS REVENUE
INCREASE IN AUCKLAND (Special to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, ibis day. The Customs revenue in Auckland, alter being on the decline for a considerable period, has shown a material advance in the past live months, January of this year continuing the movement with a very material increase. January’s revenue was £1216,053, compared with £172,148 in the same month last year, while the five months’ figures are £1,000,663, compared with £902,888. I’he figures for the past five months show an increase of more than 10 per cent, over the corresponding period of 1927-28.
The present, year has opened with an increase in net Customs and tyre tqx for January of more than 25 per cent, over the same mb nth last year. The collections of the tvre tax were £499(1, compared with £3OBB in January, 1928. Motor spirit produced in revenue during the month £31,919, compared with £11,900 in the previous January. Beer duty collections totalled £11,6,-2. compared with £9599 in January, 1928.
