For the last nine years Saturday has neen observed. Arguments were brought forward that Thames was now more an agricultural centre than a mining town, and consequently councillors considered that farmers’ views should be taken into account. There were two petitions presented, that desiring no change being signed by 37 shopkeepers, while 48 shopkeepers signed the other, which was supported by 228 residents* and 132 country people.'.
