Dr. Holgate, who Ims many friends in Poverty Bay, is at present practising in England, and is a member of the staff of a hospital at Ascot. lie is to continue his studies in the Old Country with the object of obtaining a fellowship of the Rova! College of Surgeons.
Experimental short-wave radio reception and transmission is to be encouraged in Gisborne by the forma ti on of a branch of the New Zen la tic. Association of Radio Transmitters. Amateur operators have to qualify for transmitting certificates, and one of the activities of the association branch will be in tlio direction of providing instructional material for the examinees. One member has offered to provide for temporary use by tin novices a transmitting machine which will be operated under close super-
