MUSSOLINI AND PRESS
RIGHT OF CRITICISM CONCEDED
ROME, October 11. Signor, 'Mussolini has submitted to 70 directors of Fascist daily newspapers his views regarding the press. It must, he said, avoid what is harmful to the regime and do all that is useful for it. He argued that the Italian press was the freest in the world, because it was not under orders of a plutocratic party or' of individual groups. He likened it to an orchestra- playing the same note, but that note was not dictated by the Government. It was struck by Fascist journalism of its own accord. “Apiivt from purely political questions and other questions of fundamental importance to the, revolution, the right or criticism was freely conceded.”
