When the Ycstris inquiry was resumed, a .survivor, Isaac Scott, a ■waiter, testified before Mr. Tuttle that the vessel leaked on the last .four voyages from the starboard door (iff. above water. Ho stated that none of the crew were assigned to lifeboats on the last voyage, and there were no drills for passengers. Thomas Connor, the head waiter, said: “In my opinion the Vestris had a list on all five voyages on ■which I sailed. The list increased last voyage five hours from New York.” Gilbert Ford, a negro, chief fireman, said if was not unusual to find water in the engine-room. He said
lie was unable to make the screws work on the leaking ash hopper. The last lifeboat drill lie could remember was on the Ycstris’ last northern trip.
