NEW YORK', Sept. 24.

Casper llolstein, known throughout Harlem, the negro quarter of New York, as the "Negro Baron," was kidnapped by four white men on Friday, and is being held to ransom, for £IO,OOO. The incident was admitted by the police yesterday after they had searched the city for two days without success. llolstein, who is one of the wealthiest, .negroes in New York, was leaving 'a friend's apartment' late at night, intending to drive home in his own motor-car, which stood by the pavement with tho, chauffeur at the wheel. Four men seized Holsteiu before he was able to enter the car and threw him into their own car. Pursuit by Hie chauffeur proved fruitless. _ . The "Negro Baron" is prominent in tho sporting world of Harlem, being president of the Turf Club. He is reported to have made a bet of more than £6OOO one day recently at the Belmont faces. His philanthropy is, widely known. When seized he'had in his possession £6OO in casli and jewellery valued at the same amount.
