A STOKER'S DEATH
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST
tP«>r Press Association.! WELLINGTON, this day. 'the circumstances which led to the death of a stoker, Cyril William Nesbitt, 22, of 11.M.5. Dun'edin between Upper Mutt and Trentham early on the morning of October 30, were inquired into by Mr. E. Page, S.M. The evidence showed that two men had been at a local hotel, and on the way back to camp at Trentham the deceased became drowsy, and lay down on the road. His companion, Leading Stoker Toy, sat- down beside, him, and later both were struck by a motor lorry. The deceased was taken to the police station and then to a doctor.
In finding that the deceased was accidentally killed by being run over by a motor-lorry, Mr." Page said the lorry was badly lighted, and did not comply with the regulations. He was not satisficfd, however, that even with good lights the accident could have been avoided, for the two men, in darkblue uniforms, and not moving, would be hard to pick up.
