BYRD EXPEDITION
LATEST ARRANGEMENTS MANY GIFTS OFFERED (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Commander Byrd has decided that tho steamer Eleanor Rolling shall call at Dunedin first, and she is expected to arrive there on Saturday. She will come to Wellington later and fake in the equipment brought by the commander. A.s is usual With these expeditions, many gifts, including a ton of chocolate, are being offered. A fair quantity of stores will be purchased in New Zealand, such as eggs, candles, matches, clothing, and boots.
One of the novelties of the. expedition will he the use of bottles filled with aniline dye. Dropped on the snow they will break and leave large red patches a.s a guide to the aeroplanes. Smoke bombs also will be employed for this purpose.
