BUSINESS OF COUNCIL The. Cook County Council met to-day, Cr. Gluts. Mattheys presiding over Os. \Y. G. Slierratt, J. C N. Thomas, J. E. Benson. G. Witters, M. T. B. Hall, E. H. Btiker C. E. Gibson, J. Tombleson, W.G. MlaeLaurin and M. L. Holden. Leave of absence was granted toiO. J*’. S. Bowen. A recommendation that the Muriwai riding rate should lie reduced by -|<l from the amount proposed at the previous meeting was made in a letter from Cr. F; S. Bowen, who was unable to attend. He wrote tat his riding rate this year was far in excess of that of last year. With a credit of about £360 from last year and about £SOO or £6OO extra in rates, the requirements appeared to he from £BCO to £IOOO more than the previous year’s. Cr. Sherrntt suggested a commiltee of three should be deputed to go through accounts before the council meeting, in order to facilitate the business of the council. —The suggestion was adopted. The committee’s action in making an arrangement with the Borough Council (already reported) with respect to Haiti stormwater drainage was adopted. Mr. Alex. A. Todd, of Wnimata Valley. wrote objecting to his new valuation, which was £2745 ns_ against Hie previous assessment of £2895. —Received. The general riding rates decided on at last, month’s meeting of the council wore confirmed to-day without alteration, as follow: Gisborne 2|d, Il'angarou s,|d, Muriwai 3 2-3 d. Pakarae Id. Patutahi 3id, Pouawn. 6gd, Taruheru 3d. Waimata 6gd, Waingake 3|d, and Whntaupoko sd.
