GRAFTING BONE ON SPINE (Special to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. The operation of grafting a piece of bone on the spine of a patient, performed by a young surgeon in Birmingham, lias been done several times in Auckland. At the present timc~there is a girl in Auckland Hospital who has come successfully through the operation, and is on the way to recovery. She was suffering from tuberculos disease of the spine before the piece of healthy bone was grafted on. “ The grafting of a bone on the spine lias been performed‘several, times here,” said Ur. O. E. Maguire, medical superintendent of Auckland Hospital. " The usual method is to take a piece from the shinbone for the operation. It is called an Albee bone' graft, after the American surgeon who first described it.” • !
