BANK MANAGER’S LOT
NOT AN EASY OISE (Special- to the lletald.) - AUCKLAND, this day. A bank manager’s lot is not merely to sit back in ran easy chair, smile onclients. and grant overdrafts as favors. Mr. Clement Bartley, manager of-the* Auckland Savings Bank, attributes his bald pate to the worries he has suffered’ over the bank’s farm securities. Giving evidence in. a . case at the Supreme Court, in which misrepresentation is alleged, Bartley said the bank held security over the property. In the past there had been very bad managers. : ........ Counsel for plaintiff; I take it you have had no experience of farm values? • Witness: Only 45years of it. (Laughter.) Counsel: Were you bothered much with bad managers of bank properties?- . Witness (bending his head and displaying his bald pate surrounded by a fringe of silvery hair): I have, indeed. Look at that. (Loud laughter.) v Counsel: How many securities does the bank hold?—Over 3300. Counsel : No wonder you are bala.
