Mr. T. Bailiie, who has been spending a holiday with relatives in Westport, has left on his return to Gisborne,
Mr. Innes Randolf, regional manager for General Motors, arrived at Auckland from New York by the Port Bowen yesterday. Tls is accompanied by Airs. Randolf and their family. Major I). B. Blair, D. 5.0., New Zea, land Staff Corps, of IVhangarei, has been posted to the retired list with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He intends next year to take up his residence in France, of which country Airs. Blair is a native.
V* Air. IV. A. Leiteb, who lias bad a long association with the Union Bank of Australia, has been appointed general manager of the bank in succession to Mr. A. 11. Chambers. Air. Leiteli was formerly chief inspector for the bank in New Zealand.
it is understood tliat Mr IV. Jeffries, an auctioneer and land agent of Hokitika, will contest the Duller seat in Parliament at the coming elections, as an antiSoeialist candidate. Mr. Jeffries is a native of Charlestown. He has had long association with local bodies. Bishop Cleary, who was injured in a motor accident, travelled to Auckland from Hamilton in a hammock suspended in the train. He stood the journey well, and it is expected that he will have recovered sufficiently to attend itho Eucharistic Congress in Sydney in September. —P.A.
