RACING

RICCARTON NOTES (Special to the Herald.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. At Riccarton on Saturday Ohildsplay was let inn three furlongs under pull. She looked well and showed her customary brilliancy. Unfortunately for her connections, her weak knee is not likely to carry her through a preparation, as she was lame alter working. Maunga, who arrived on Friday, does not look the jaded gelding he was reported to he. Always a plain gelding, he yet looks bright and muscular. H. McSeveney will ride him in the Homeby Steeples at the Christchurch Hunt race meeting, but the question as to who will ride him in the Grand National Steeples will not be decided until his lady owner arrives from the North.

Noteworthy, who has always done brilliant, work, which .she lias not raced up to, beat Paper Boy very easily over five furlongs. The time was fairly good, but Paper Boy must be. credited with the fact that he is not nearly as forward as the filly. Limerick and Arikiwai were companions in a dash over five furlongs with light weights up. They ran totogether all the way, but whereas Arikiwai was ridden out the big Limond golding was never off the bit. The time. 1.2. was the best of the morning. It is pleasing to relate that Arikiwai, although lame after galloping, was not nearly as bad as he was on Thursday morning. When cooled, he walked home sound enough and F. 1). Jones has definitely decided to take him to Australia. CANTERBURY PARK MEETING (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.l SYDNEY, July 22.
