SECOND EDITION. WAIPAOA FIRE BRIGADE
FIRST ANNUAL MEETING VISIT TO GISBORNE There was a full muster of members oi the Waipaon Fire Brigade at the first annual meeting this week, which was a most eni husiastie one. Superintendent (!. W. Clarke presided, and in the course of his remarks the chairman commented that although since its inception the brigade had not been railed out to an outbreak of fire, it had proved of great value to Waipaon. The members had taken a whole-hearted interest. in the work, and the numerous well-attended practices had enabled the brigade to attain a high standard of efficiency, in view of tho fact that there were many novices amongst the members. The brigade now possessed SCCO feet, of good quality hose, which gave them a field of operation with a radius of over half a mile from the freezing works. Consequently, in the event of an outbreak of lire in one of the cottages, the brigade would lie aide to deal with the blaze as effectively as if it had occurred in the works. The water pressure was always maintained
at, fn.m BO to 901 b, and the brigade bad nothing to fear in this respect.
