Nineteen out of 56 Buthenian iCommuhisfs, charged with conspiring to establish a proletariat dictatorship over Polish While Russian provinces, were acquitted, Four'of the ringleaders, all ex-mem-bers of Parliament, were sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment, and others with sentences ranging from three to eight years. Spectators in the gallery cheered and showered flowers upon those acquitted, and replied by singing the Communist anthem and shouting: 1 "We have slept for centuries, but now are awakened." The police had a bard task to quel) the demonstration. 'Tlie trial lasted .for three months. It was early alleged that the Soviet Legation in 'Warsaw was the medium for supplying funds for the plot, and soon afterwards the Soviet Counsellor was recalled.
