P.B. UNION MEETS THURSDAY'S REP. MATCH Arrangements for Thursday's senior representative match. Tolaga Lay subUnion v. Poverty Bay, were discussed among other business, at last night's meeting of (lie Poverty Bay Rugby Union. It' was stated that Tolaga bay officials had fallen in with the loeal arrangements, and that, the game should be a first-class draw. Mention was made of the fact that the. game had not been advertised in the newspapers, and a subcommittee was authorised to take' tho question of advertising under discussion with the promoters of the Empire Shopping Week campaign, in connection with which the match was arranged.

There were present at the meeting Messrs. G. J. Jeuno (deputy chairman), A. J. Primrose, J. O'Neill, G. R. Dausey, R. Bartlet't, E. T. Brosnnhan, H. Hunter. A. H. Lange, and W. S. MoKee, hon. secretary.

Advice was received from the Manawhenua Union that that union's programme of representative matches, already arranged, would not permit of a visit being paid to Poverty Bay this season.

Writing for the. Waikato Union, the secretary of that body indicated that there might lie a chance of a team visiting Gisborne this season.—The acting chairman intimated that he had been personally advised that there was a good chance of the Waikato visit eventuating. The Waikato Union had to send a team on tour, and it would pass through Gisborno to Wairoa and Hawke's Bay. A circular was received from the N.Z.R/F.U.. asking the Poverty Bay Union to nominate, five referees in order of preference, who would Ive available lor appointment, to control inter-provincial games. The letter was handed to tho delegate of the Referees' Association. With regard to the curtain-raiser inateh for Thursday's senior game, Mr. Jeune mentioned that a. team of junior players from Tolaga Bay sub.-Union might- be secured to meet the Poverty Bay third grade representatives. —The meeting was of the opinion that this would "result in a good match to precede the senior game, and, on Mr. Brosnahan's motion, it was resolved to invite the visit from the Tolaga Bay juniors, if a curtain-raiser is required for the day. On the subject of the junior selectorship, Mr. A. 11. Lange agreed to accept nomination, and he was unanimously elected sole selector for the grade for the onsuiug year. Waikohu .sub-Union's challenge for tho Black and While Shield was held over for further consideration as to whether the Poverty Bay juniors, or a composite, fifteen including a. leavening of senior players, should defend the shield It was recalled that in u friendly mutch .played last year at To Karaka, the juniors suffered heavy casualties and if was doubled whether they would be able to hold their own with the big country players. The senior and third grade selectors submitted the names of' players for' special training, as published in last night's Herald Financial details as to the cost of installing flood-lights for night training at the Oval were discussed briefly, the delegates being thoroughly impressed with" the impossibility of financing the proposal. The cable and lights were estimated to ''"'■• l £ &° c "' * !6O, ;jJ ' n(l ll,c upkeep from £1 to £2 per week. The application of Ike Primary Schools Sports Association for the use of the Oval on Tuesday and Thursday evenings was granted.
