A motor-cyclist, W. L. Pockington, of Papanui, collided with a tram-car in Eeridalton road, Christchurch, yesterday. He was thrown from his machine and was partly under the running board 08 the'tram'when extricated. Pockington was taken to hospital with a fractured' wrist and internal injuries. His condition is not serious.
The Hawke's Bay fruit export season closed yesterday', the apples shipped totalling 162,009 cases, and pears 32,826 cases, a grand total of 194,835 cases. Of the apples, about 21,C00 cases went to South America. Last year the export figures were 64,716 cases. Tse amount exported this year approximately equals the quantity shipped in the preceding five years.
In the Christchurch Supreme Court yesterday Mr. Justice Adams gave judgment in a case on appeal from a decision by Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M.. David Henry Law, appellant/ by contract in writing, acquired from Ernest Halstead. a milk round and certain chattels for £390. Law claimed from Halstead £SO on the ground that after the sale Halstead canvassed Law's customers and injured his business. The magistrate nonsuited plaintiff, and the appeal was against this decision. Mr. Justice Adams sustained the appeal, giving judgment for Law.
A claim by Drayton, Jones, Ltd., drapers and ' furnishers, against Henrys Poynlon Bridge, accountant, for £1.890. which should have been heard fit the Supreme Court in Christchurch yesterday, was settled out of court. Plaintiffs lost a large sum of money by the, dishonesty of a cashier,.and plaintiffs alleged that Bridge, their auditor, had been negligent in not discovering irregularities. Mr. W. S. Glenn, member for Rangitikei, yesterday denied a statement issued 'from Auckland recently that ho would support the new farmers' political party. He said he had always stood as "a follower of Reform, and would do so again this year. He had not deviated from his election promises bv the criticisms he had at times uttered on certain legislation, but ho declared that neither Mr. Massey nor Mr. Coalcs ever denied,' followers' their right to make constructive criticism.
