SEAMEN'S DEMANDS
ATTITUDE OF SHIPOWNERS Reports that the various firms of shipping owners interested in the New Zealand carrying trade have met and entered upon an agreement to, resist the uewly-iiled demands of the Mew Zealand Seamen's Union for a 44-hour week and an all-round increase in wages of nearly £2 pot month wc.vv denied in Wellington by <fho representative of one of the biggest .shipowners. " Up to the present wo have not considered the seamen's demands," said this gentleman. " The award under which they arc working must run until the end of June and the position will then bo looked into."
