EXTENSIVE DAMAGE
FREEZING WORKS FIRE (Pei* Press Association.) BAWERA, this day. A five discovered at 7.45 o'clock last evening caused damage estimated at about £15,000 to £17,000 to a building owned by the West Coast Refrigerating Co., and the contents of the cold storage rooms. The building and contents were covered by insurance, though details are not available. It is believed that the fire started m the roof from an unknown cause and burned slowly for several hours before it was detected. Tho middle portion of the building, for a length of 250 ft, was gutted, but the brigade confined the flames to this portion, which was situated between concrete walls dividing it from the ends of the building. Four small freezing chambers in the heart of the fire were damaged only on the outside walls, the frest being visible on the contents this morning. The portions of the building saved included the company's offices and engine room, with an ammonia condenser.
