TIKITIKI NEWS
(Herald Correspondent.) The festival season has come and gone, and everyone after enjoying himself is now falling hack to _ the old routine. What with the visit of the Waikato Maori entertainers and their princess, with’Te Araroa sports and dance, and with our own big programme we had an enjoyable time. The sports meeting here established a record for the number of people who attended and for the takings from the gate, booths, and dance, £526. The Waikato entertainers had a right royal time. Although their visit was a business one, they were treated as the guests of the tribe. For the one night, they performed here they made over £7O, and had good houses both at To Araroa and Hicks Bay. It was the fact that the visitors wore accompanied by a member of their royal house that made the party very popular, for the princess is not a stranger to the Ngati-Porou. Of the sum taken for the sports the entertainers were given half the total, so they have every reason for being satisfied with their visit to the coast. One of our highly respected Maori sheepfarmers died at his home at llangitukia on Monday last, in the person of Mr. Robert Manuel. Although he had been ailing for some time, the news of his death came as a shock to many of his friends. The deceased, who was educated at Te Auto, was over 50 years of age. He leaves a widow and a large family to mourn their loss.
