OBITUARY

MR. J. BLAIR MASON (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Inst night. Mr. J. Blair Mason, the well-known harbor engineer, died in Auckland to-day, aged 70 years. [The late Mr. Blair Mason was rc- ' cognised as one of the leading marine engineers in the Dominion. For a long timo ho was engineer 1o the Dunedin Harbor Board, but some years ago wont into private practice in ■ Auckland. In recent, years he has been associated with a number of large engineering works, foremost among which is the construction of the New Plymouth harbor. He was one of the commission of engineer? which reported upon the Gisborne harbor in 1920.]

A distinguished Australian soldier, one who had volunteered for active service with practically every British expedition during the last 40 years. Colonel John Henry Alexander Lee, died recently at the home of his daughter, Mrs. I). E. 'll. Brace, Epsom, Auckland. He was born in Calcutta 74 years ago, being son of the late Rev. Dr. John Lee, a. time principal of Edinburgh TJnisity. Ho had the distinction of resenting Australia at the Coronation King George, in 1910, being at that time placed in charge of the Australian Contingent in London.
