(P.A. Messages). An inquest concerning the death of W. E. McCarthy, dealer, wur held in Wanganui to-day. The coroner returned a verdict that deceased mot his death by asphyxiation when mentally unsound. Tho Lower Hutt Borough Council has decided to incorporate the now motor regulations in its by-laws. I Leslie Alwyn Olson McKen/ic, 17, who escaped from the Timaru prison while awaiting transfer to a Borstal institute, was recaptured at Washdyko this morning. Later ho appeared in court on a charge of breaking gaol and was remanded till Friday.^ A woman who waa married last Wednesday, died under an anaesthetic in her own homo in Napier to-day. Her name was M'' s - Kathleen Gertrude MaeKintosh. She had been placed under the anaesthetic? for an urgent operation and suddenly collapsed and died. Miss Berry, matron of the Pahiatua Public Hospital, while walling in tho hwspital grounds today .slipped and fractured her left leg at tho ankle. Edwin James; (>7, a well known farmer of Parkville, committed suicide last night by shooting himself in the head with a pea rifle, death being instantaneous. Deceased was having tea when, through the electric light failing, the whole family had to assist in completing' the milking. A younger daughter, who returned to the house at about S o'clock, found her father sitting in an armchair in a front room with a pea rifle between his knees, quite dead. He leaves a widow and family of nine, mostly grown up. An,inquest will.be held.
