TARANAKI VISITED
ME. AMERY’S TOUR (Per Press Association.) NEWi PLYMOUTH, last night. The Secretary of State for the Dominions, Mr. L, S. Amery, and party arrived at New Plymouth this afternoon,. travelling overland from To Kuiti and halting 'brieiiy at VVaitara. At New Plymouth, despite the unfavorable weather, they were given a warm reception by a large crowd. Mr. * and Mrs. Amery spent a busy afternoon after their’ reception. The party were the guests of the Tourist and Expansion League, and were motored to beauty spots and points of interest about the town. The tour was followed hy a reception by the Victoria League and the Legion of Frontiersmen. The Uipera House v'as packed this evening for the civic reception. Mr. Amery spoke on the need itor Hmpiare co-opera-tion and discussed immigration problems and urged upon the Dominion the desirability of keeping young New Zealanders on the land. Despite the fact that Mount. Kgmont was shrouded in misty rain, Mr. Amery left for the North Eigmont hostel at 10 o’clock to-night, he intends to start climbing shortly after daybreak arid hopes to reach the suriimit, though the indication’s to-night are that he, as a keen mountaineer, will be disappointed, for there appears little chance that the clouds will lift sufficiently to allow of a (dear view. To-morrow Mr, Amery will join tlio remainder of the party on a special train at Inglewood, cn route to Wanganui, where he is due at 3 p.m.
