A SEASONAL SETBACK (British Official Wireless. > Rec. 1 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 17. Owing to seasonal increases in the price of fuel and some foodstuffs, the cost of living in October was 69 per cent, above that of July, 1914, as com« pared with 67 per cent, in the previous month. The effect of the cold weather on the building and other trades also accounted for a seasonal increase in unemployment. Among approximately 12,G00,C©0 workpeople insured against unemployment tho percentage of wholly or partly unemployed was 9.5 on October 24, compared with 9.3 a month previously aaid 13.6 a year previously, when the effects of the mining dispute were still felt.
