LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL
YESTERDAY 'S BUSINESS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. to-day. The' Valuation of Land Amendment Bill was reported by the Lands Committee without amendment, and put through the final stages and passed. The Local Legislation Bill was read a second time, and put through the final stages and passed as amended by the Local Bills Commit lee. T'bo Napier Foreshore Bill and the Newmarket Borough Council and Vesting and Empowering Bill word each read a second time. The debate wits resumed, on the motion »of Sir Robert Stout, that the Council is of opinion that the Executive Council should in the recess, consider the need of remodelling local government machinery in the direction of establishing district councils with wide powers over large areas, so that centralised government anil its growing cost may not he increased, but that real economic and eiilcient local self-government maybe promoted and strengthened.' The motion was carried on the voices, And the Council adjourned at 4.50 p.m. until to-morrow. > ...:, i'
