COAL MINE CONTROL
PROTECTION FOR 'MINERS" (For Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. In moving;the committal of the Coal Mines Amendment Bill in the House to-night the Minister said; it provided inter alia for, the protection of miners ' wages; which would be made the first charge of plant, etc. This was the result of a- promise made to the Kaitaiigata miners, who recently found themselves in a bad position. Another provision was for (lie proper distribution of ' air throughout the /mine. Mr. H. E. Holland, commenting, expressed surprise that the Dobson Co.. was -not prosecuted, as reports showed it had-not "complied with the regulations regarding coal dust. That, however, was a past; matter, and he hoped that in future no company' would be exempt from prosecution if there should, unfortunately, arise similar conditions at another mine.
