SHOT ACCIDENTALLY TIRED (Received Nov. 8, noon.) CANBERRA, 11 Nov; S. According to information received from the Home and Territories Department regarding the death of Constable Clapp, Clapp was arresting a man on :i charge of supplying liquor to a half-caste. He took a pistol from him and stuck it in his own belt. As he diil so it exploded. The bullet. pierced an artery in the constable's leg and he died in a few minutes. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death was returned. A cable message received yesterday suggested that Constable Clapp, who had been responsible for the arrest of many criminals, had been ambushed and shot while taking his prisoner to gaol.
