MR. JUSTICE STRINGER'S SUCCESSOR (Special to .he Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. Brief reference to the choice of his successor was made by Mr. Justice 1 Stringer, who is shortly to retire, at f tho farewell tendered to his Honor 1 tn I the Supreme Court yesterday. "I hope that before very long the vacancy created by my retirement will be filled by one of your own number," said his Honor, addressing members of tho Auckland legal profession. " I say to him that if such proves to be »• tho case he will find that his colleagues on the bench will do to him as they did to me—that is, give him the benefit of their advice, knowledge and experience."
It is generally expected in Auckland that Mr. A. H. Johnstone, one of the leading members of the local bar, will be appointed. Mr. Johnstone formerly practised in New Plymouth.
