Since the inevitable result of the erection of this ediliee would be, not. oply the deprivation of their pastime, but also ultimate starvation, it was resolved that, all present vacate, and warn others to vacate the premises. This meeting would thus he exonerated from all blame should any deaths subsequently occur as tin* result of neglecting this warning. At midnight the meeting closed, and tlm despondent members filed nut in the direction of the harbor, where in future more activity is likely to be evidenced than heretofore.*'

Training the Child, a unique demonstration of fascinating methods of capturing the interests and forming the mind of tin* child, will form the subject of a series of nddiesses by the Rev. Charles Wickham, of London, to he given this week under the auspices of the New Zealand Alliance. The visitor is especially gifted in speaking to the young, and is just completing a 12 months tom throughout Australia and New Zealand. Applications for his services are pouring in to the Alliance, which is trying to arrange for an extension of Ids visit to (he Dominion. During the past year the Band of Hope, movement throughout Now Zealand lias been revived, and the number ol these organisations has increased from 100 to over 300. The Rev. Mr. Wickham is advertised to speak at the Methodist Church, Bright street, to-»mrow evening, at Knox Church, Mnngppapn, on Thursday evening, and there will be a special rally m the Baptist Church on Friday doming.
