SUICIDE BY" GAS POISONING (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. At the inquest on James Alexander Campbell. 35. whose dead body was found in his dentist's surgery, Catherine Hill proprietress ol the Royal Hotel, said deceased had been staying at the hotel for about six months. At U p.m. oil Friday lie said lie was going across the harbor and would not be hack that night. On Shtnrday witness received a, note Jrorn deceased m which he said: “1 have been a trier, but this place lias proved a white elephant.” Continued ill-health, domestic and financial worries, and trying to please too many, have got me down, and I cannot go any further.” The Coroner returned a verdict of suicide by gas poisoning. RUN OVER BY TRAIN (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN. last night. The inquiry into the death of Miss Jane Finlay Ronnie, who was run over by a railway engine between Wingatui and Mosgiei on Thursday lyght, was concluded to-day. The Coroner said lie could not draw any inference from the evidence, and would return a verdict that deceased was accidentally run over by a train, and that her death was due to injuries received. The evidence showed that no blame rested on the Railway Department. MISHAP IN QUARRY HAMILTON, this day. As a. result of a stone falling from the face of a, quarry at Mangaiti, J. Murphy bad one linger severed and three others badly crushed. MAN’S HAND SHATTERED HAMILTON, this day. Owing to detonators exploding while held in bis band, George Blackpool, 23, of Waitoa, had the lingers and a, portion of the left hand shattered to-day. It is feared that the hand will have to be amputated. WOMAN’S SERIOUS FALL HAMILTON, this day. Spinal injuries and shock were sustained by Mrs. Evelyn Garde, of Franfcton, through falling down a flight of stairs. Her condition is considered serious.
