OPOTIKI HOSPITAL
VISIT OF DR. VALINTINE (Special to the Herald.) OPOTIKI, this day. Dr. T. H. A. Valintiue, InspectorGeneral of Hospitals, visited Opotiki yesterday at the invitation of fhe Opotiki Hospital Hoard ami discussed additions to the hospital amounting to £10(1(1, and also the installation of an X-ray outfit and room estimated to cost'between £IOOO and £ISOO. Dr. YaUntine stated that the Government Kaci very little money to spend on hospitals. ' Since the beginning of the year he had refused additions to various hospitals aiminuting to £250,000, New Zealand was better catered for in the matter of hospitals than, any other part of the world. Recently he visited France, America, Switzerland, and England and inquired into their different systems.' America Avas cracked up, but" their hospitals catered only for two classes of people, the rich and the poor. The huddle, class was left out. American hospitals charged seven dollars a day against New Zealand 's ( charge of 9.8 a day. Later in the day Dr. Yalintine visited the hospital and expressed pleasure at the capabale management of the. institution, and iiually approved of the proposed alterations and additions, and also of tlie. installation of au X-ray plant. Mr. H. R. Hogg, chairman of the board, thanked Dr. Valintiue for his interesting information, and also for his approval of the additions. Tho hoard intends to proceed with the work of alterations and the installation of the X-ray at an early date.
